The focus is in line with the vision 2030 of the United Nations. The Goals include: worldwide Poverty Alleviation, worldwide Hunger Alleviation and food security, provision of quality education for all, gender equality and women empowerment, availability and sustainable management of water for all, provision of clean and affordable energy for all, economic growth and decent employment for all.
It is aimed at cultivating original ideas from young people who are encouraged to join the 'all-hands-on-deck' mission of the United Nations (UN) in achieving sustainable social, economic and environmental growth for Africa. These ideas are evaluated by a constitute jury that makes recommendations as to which essay(s) are most adoptable for the Nigerian clime and hence selects those for immediate publication.

Winning the competition requires sufficient literary skill and in-depth knowledge of prevailing socio-economic happenings which must be evident in the entry in order to satisfy the embedded skill tests prescribed by the Jury. Over-riding Emphasis is on selection of worthy literature for Publication. The competition is organised twice yearly.
Vision & Objectives
The foundation is interested in seeing African youngsters rise above complaint-making to active contribution and involvement in the much needed positive change. All students and graduates of higher institutions and Secondary schools in Nigeria are encouraged to participate in this premiere pro-active movement towards awareness creation and action stimulation.

In line with the most recent United Nations Sustainable development Agenda, adopted by 193 World leaders meeting at the UN headquaters in New York, Sept. 2015, The Nigerian Government is set to take the lead as the most populous African State towards ensuring shared prosperity and well being for all it's citizens by the year 2030. To this effect, the theme for this year's USEC is " The Change Begins With Me"
